Day 8: Jan 16th, 2024 | Sharks and Rays (Autumn)

Today, Costa Rica's national breakfast was served, featuring gallo pinto, egg, and plantain. The drink was a delicious pineapple and mint mix that was extremely refreshing. We then set off to Cano Island to find some sharks. We were extremely lucky this morning; we saw an alligator while making our way through the river. Luckier still, we made it to the open sea and saw a pod of dolphins that played in the waves made by the boat! Evelyn caught beautiful photos of them jumping out of the water.  We arrived at Cano Island and gazed at the crystal clear blue water before jumping in. The atmosphere was perfect and the water was cool and calm. While snorkeling we were able to see all sorts of marine animals! We spotted over ten turtles, some of them even came to the surface to breathe and we could say hello. As is the nature of folklore, there are many variations of these stories, and this collection is only a brief anthology of retellings that I found online. Borucan Legends The Pigs and the Two Villages Many people used to live along the Rio Terraba. The people were so numerous that they had eaten all the animals. The people were so numerous that they had eaten all the plants. All the wildlife was gone, except for one group of pigs. Some of the people chased these pigs with their bows and arrows. Day 3 Pictures - 1/11/2024 Fish Identification Snorkel (Maria C)

 Breakfast: Chia pudding with homemade granola, dried hibiscus, homemade banana ice cream, and fresh apples and bananas.  Dinner: Vegetarian ceviche, cuscus, and yuca, potato, and beet chips.       Students enjoy the boat ride with a beautiful view while getting ready to snorkel! Students examined the water they had been swimming in to ensure it was safe.  During the boat ride to the snorkel location, we spotted monkeys and dolphins!
